Making a Late 18th Century Wardrobe:
Ladies Strapless Stays

CLASS DESCRIPTION

It's a simple fact of life - 18th century clothing will not fit over a natural 21st century figure. Why not? Because the 18th century woman was wearing stays.

Throughout the 18th century, stays defined the shape of a woman's clothing. Stays, in many different shapes and styles, were worn by the majority of the female population. You too can acquire that most attractive and admired 18th century silhouette by creating your very own pair of strapless stays, the most comfortable stays of all. Stays are the necessary foundation for any 18th century clothing you may choose to make, including the gorgeous robes á la Française and robes á l'Anglaise, the quintessential "Cinderella" gowns.

This four lesson class will provide detailed step by step instruction, beyond what is provided in the fully illustrated Strapless Stays pattern. Included will be how to fit your stays, adjust your pattern, select the best boning materials for your particular application, and how to wear your stays - dressing for the 18th century from the inside out.

If you can follow a sewing pattern and sew a straight seam, then you can make these stays.
