Instructor Profile: Danielle Nunn-Weinberg Danielle
Nunn-Weinberg is a doctoral candidate at the University of Manchester specializing
in 16th century English clothing and textiles, particularly in written sources.
She published the cover article in the Costume Research Journal, and is slated
for an article in the second issue of the new journal Medieval Clothing and
Textiles. Danielle has presented papers on 16th century clothing, accessories,
and textiles at the International Congress of Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo,
Michigan, as well as conference of the same name in Leeds, England. She has
also appeared as a guest lecturer at the University of St. Thomas on the subject
of medieval clothing and been consulted as a guest expert on historic lace
by the Oakville Museum. Danielle’s love and interest of historical clothing is lifelong. She
remembers her first paper, presented to her fourth grade class, was on the
history of clothing. Although family pressures forced this interest into the
background Danielle was able to return to it as a graduate student in 2001
after pursuing other interests such as military service, public relations,
and gemmology. Although academically concentrating on 16th century clothing, Danielle’s interests cover the full historical spectrum with recent focus on the Regency period and 18th century clothing. Her interests in the various periods have expanded through involvement with various reenactment groups, allowing her an opportunity to turn the theoretical into the practical by creating wearable historical garments.
