Most of you probably missed Rose wearing this stunning day dress. Rose wore this dress exiting the elevator as Molly Brown was entering the elevator. This is at the beginning of the film prior to the two women meeting. (Go back to your video and look at the scene carefully. ) Titanic's costume design team purchased the Elevator Day Dress from Connie Marks, owner of Victoriana . Her vintage clothing store is located in Rocky Point, North Carolina. When asked how did she come into contact with the Titanic crew, Connie replied, "A friend referred them to me. The design team purchased two dresses from me and both were used in the film". The second costume was an evening gown worn by Rose's mother at the dinner party. Connie stated that the only thing changed on the Elevator Dress for the film was the rosette at the bustline. The rosette was changed to light peach. The top of the dress is a sheer white textile with a matching slip. The neckline is V shaped with black trim emphasizing the line of cut. A broad band of black accents Rose's waist and breaks the tunic looking top. The top of the dress breaks just beneath the hipline. The lower part of the costume is a full black skirt. |
