Mardi Gras in the United States was started in 1703 at Mobile. The museum's exhibit primarily focus is on court costumes from the local organizations but does show other Mardi Gras costumes. The court costumes are very elaborate. Please pay close attention to the king and queen's robe's trains. Each tells a story of the wearer's personality, family history & heritage, hobbies, college faternities and sorieties. Each robe is different! The costumes are from the 1920s to present day.
