Fashion Date: Circa 1893-1897Costume Description: Susie's "empire styled" costume or "yoke dress" is hanging from a square yoke and made in a delicate fabric (likely cotton batiste or muslin). It is trimmed with lace. There are a dozen similar examples in a 1897 Butterick catalog, made with both long, and three quarter length sleeves as shown. She is wearing a pendant necklace. Her wide-brim straw hat is accented with daisies or Brown-Eyed Susans. Hairstyle Description: Susie's hair is golden and waist length. It is pulled up from the frontal sides and pulled to the back of her head. Interesting enough, she has a curl just above each temple. Her hair does not appear to have been braided prior to this photo session.
