IMPORTANT EVENTS IN CAREER

 Principle Designer: 1919-1936. His family has continued to run the business since his death through present time. Patou's clothing lines were couture and ready-to-wear.
 Clients: Dolly Sisters; Actresses: Mary Pickford, Gloria Swanson, Constance Bennett, and Louise Brooks. Tennis Stars: Suzanne Lenglen and Helen Wills-Moody.
 1910: Opened first dressmaking business combined with furs. This business was considered a failure.
 1911: Opened a tailoring business, closed for World War I. Patou sold the business in 1914 to an American. Patou served as a captain for the Zouaves during the war.
 1919: Opened his design business in Paris using his own name.
 1920s: Known for his waistless garconne or boy/girl designs. In the early 1920s, Patou's fashion trademark was the use of geometric inserts and cubist sweaters.
 1920s: First designer to place his initals on the exterior of a garment as a sign of distinction.
 1920s: Made garments that were worn by the tennis and golf stars fashionable for women to wear as everyday wear.
 1924: Designed first one piece bathing suit for women and developed a shrink-proof fabric.
 1925-present: Patou advertised that his designer perfume, Joy, was the most expensive in the world. He also made three types of perfumes catering to different hair colors...blondes, burnettes, and redheads.
 1928: Patou created the first suntan lotion in history.
